Post Questions, Topics and Links for Podcast #58

June 10th, 2009

We’ll be broadcasting live via Ustream.TV FRIDAY (10-12-09) starting at 8pm central.

This will be an AUDIO ONLY stream. See you there for the live chat.

The HE Podcast is going through some transitions and it’s future (who, what and how it will be broadcast) is uncertain. Regular listeners will notice that I have been trying different formats, etc to keep the podcast relevant. The last few episodes have been plagued with technical difficulties and have resulted in less-than-stellar podcasts in both quality and content.

What I really want is to stop trying to jam all the geek news of the week into the show and really focus more on 2-3 topics or a single overall theme per episode. If you have ideas for episode themes, please email comics[@]hijinksensue[dot]com. Dont post them in the comments since they are episode specific.

Episode 58 is going to be MAILSACK ONLY! So post your questions, topics, geek news items etc and we will discuss anywhere from zero to all of them.

I’ve noticed a lot of you seem to spend a great amount of effort on crafting your questions scenarios (“If you were stuck on a the Lost Island with either Corey Feldman or the other Corey, which season of Quantum Leap would you want to watch on DVD?). You’ll find that we typically don’t answer those because they seem to be set ups with no punch line. You can’t force the funny. Simple questions (“What did you think of this season of Lost”, “Who was the best Star Trek Captain and why?” or “What was the craziest job you ever had?”) tend to get answered and have the most entertaining results.

If you can’t make the live stream, you can always pick up the HijiNKS Ensue Podcast via RSS, iTunes and The Podcast Archive Page. New casts are usually uploaded a few days after the live stream. You can also check out the Vid-cast archive on Ustream.

What's your favorite regional fast food chain (could be in Texas, or could be somewhere else that you've been, but if possible leave out McD's, BK, and other big national chains)? What's your favorite thing on the menu there?

Sorry if this question makes anyone hungry and/or sick.

What was your most memorable date and why? (one caveat: Joel can't use his proposing to wife date)

What do you think of Hetalia Axis Powers?

For those not in the know, THIS is Hetalia Axis Powers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4gHfm0s3jo

It's a Japanese anime show where World War II nations are anthropomorphised as bishonen characters. I want Josh's impressions of if he finds Italy or Germany more attractive.

I can almost guarantee you Josh has never heard of it.

How can I ensure that my future niece and nephew will be geeks for life? (my sister is 6 months pregnant with twins, boy & girl).

P.S. Anyone know where I can find a Tribble, that'd be a great baby toy (I think).

P.S.S. I'm glad a new podcast is going up. We recently had a storm blow through here, and the repairs are slowing me down on making the next retrospective.

Is there anything you hated the first time you saw or listened to it, but then later decided it was the most awesome thing ever?

(Examples: I hated Dark City the first time I saw it, but then loved it after that. I also didn't think much of Interpol's Our Love To Admire the first time I heard it, but now it's one of my favorite albums)

Joel, as a certified Tea Steeper, ex Henna Tattoo artist (blissfully unaware pot dealer) uncertified accountant and professional internet-fetcher for technologically challanged arabian men, what sort of advice would you give a teenager looking for a summer job whilst competing with half of the unemployed country?

  11. June 12th, 2009 at 01:42 | #17

    to Joel
Since your technical problems seem to be mounting and ytoabn made the best of episode one through seven maybe a revisit of the 90's alternative rock challenge would be a good thing. and maybe keep the song list from episode 15 and have Eli on drums so we can hear his skills.

good luck on the problems. love the work.

To entire cast favorite movie trilogy and why?

Over the course of the podcasts, Denise has gone from "Guys, you can't say the word 'shit' on the podcast!" to "Motherfuckers are fucking pissing me off…the cunts!" (I'm paraphrasing.) Is this the influence of the guys, or has she always been this evil? And Denise is not allowed to answer.

If there's time for a second question…given an unlimited amount of money, what is the ONE semi-realistic item you would buy? Semi-realistic meaning a private plane is OK, but a satellite is not.

Which one of these would make you turn into the Geek Hulk fastest?
-Mac, Windows, or Linux? Does it really make a difference?
-The Ewoks were the best thing about the original Star Wars trilogy.
-Tolkien? Ehhh, I prefer Terry Brooks!
    -Joss Whedon is a hack!
-I don’t see what’s so bad about DRM!

I've been watching Carl Sagan's COSMOS again and it got me to thinking. If the Voyager probes were sent up know what music would you put on the golden record/iPod? Take into account how you would want the human race to be represented to an alien race.

How does Josh justify being such a net-pirate when he works in the video game industry? Is game piracy okay too? I'm a pirate too, I just want to hear his take on it.

I sent you that funny video last week about the couple being shown the sci fi house and the wife not being impressed. If you could pick 3 sci fi features to put in a house what would they be?
